This was the final assignment for ID 104, Interior Design II. The project involved transforming a commercial space into a restaurant/dance club. We had to select a musical or dance theme and create a cohesive design around it. I chose techno/electronica and named my club Penumbra ("dance on the edge of light"). The space had 16 foot ceilings, so a way of utilizing that vertical space was beneficial. The requirements for this project were as follows:

  • A "camera ready" ad for the club, featuring a logo design that would be reflected throughout the design of the project.
  • A color perspective rendering.
  • A color rendered elevation.
  • Floor plan with finish schedule, furniture plan with furniture schedule, and reflected ceiling plan with lighting schedule (very large and all hand drafted, so not included here, which is a shame because they are excellent)
  • Items such as menus, napkins, and matchbooks that would reflect the club's design.
  • Design boards showing product selections.

Note: The black and white painting that is the basis for my ad and much of my logo-themed artwork was created by artist Jean Doulliez.

Below are the three design boards I produced for this project. The color rendered elevation was produced on the computer using Paint Shop Pro. The perspective drawing was drawn by hand. Clicking on the images below will take you to larger interactive versions.
