Information about
the Memphis Group

FFor this project, we were told to research design history, select a distinctive era, and then design an interior space, either a living room or a bedroom, that is in keeping with that era. We were given a floor plan for a two story home with a large and rather undefined living room, and an equally large and undefined master suite space. We were also told to keep in mind that the owner/occupants of the home would be an elderly couple.

The design style I chose was that created by the Memphis Group, which unveiled its unconventional approach to design at the 1981 Milan furniture fair. The Memphis Group was created and directed by Ettore Sottsass. For more information about Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group, click on the "Information" link at left.

Below are the design boards I created for this project. Clicking on either image will give you a larger and interactive view of the board.
