The purpose of this assignment was to explore environmentally sensitive, or "green" design. The stated objectives of this assignment were as follows:

  • A multi-owner time-share unit in a resort location (I chose a beach location).
  • The unit needed to accommodate a minimum of two master suites and be able to sleep six to eight people.
  • Making sustainability an overriding concern in product selection.

The principle goal of sustainable or green interior design is to create spaces using products that reduce or eliminate the use of nonrenewable resources and minimize environmental impact. However, during my research I realized that an additional aspect of green design focuses more closely on health related issues, such as reducing or eliminating out-gassing of manufactured products, chemical-free production methods, and the elimination of inorganic irritants within the built environment. These two aspects, while occasionally conflicting, are far from mutually exclusive, and I attempted to keep both in mind while designing this space.

Below are the four design boards I produced for this project. They include many of my product selections as well as three computer rendered color elevations. Clicking on the boards below will take you to larger interactive versions.
